Since Hurricane Irene messed up the school schedule by a couple of days, K's first day of school was today instead of Monday.
She was so excited about it, last night she planned her wardrobe for the first FIVE days of school. All her clothes are layed out in her room waiting to be worn. Nope, the OCD tendencies haven't abated yet.
This is the only year that both K and M will be in the same school. I just had to get a picture of the two of them together this morning.
M was so excited about going to real school after spending the last 4 years being homeschooled. She had a great day. When she got home, she flew through her homework. "It was so easy", she said. It must have been that great teacher she had for 1st through 4th grades.
B had a good day too. He's finally not the lowly Frosh of the school. Poor thing, he had to start his day with Statistics. Tomorrow his first class is Chemistry. ACK! He tried out for the school baseball team last year and the soccer team this year, and didn't make either. Maybe he'll make the baseball team this spring.
Notice that K is missing from the picture. In our county, the Kindergarteners have a staggered entrance. Her first day will be Monday. She'll be off from school on Tuesday, but return on Wednesday and continue for the rest of the week. Gotta love odd county regs.
Well dance season is finally over for the summer. We have been tragically busy for the last two months working on the end of season show. That was back on the 4th and it was great! The girls and their peers did wonderfully.
Earlier this week, they did a few dances for another end of season show that was a much smaller production than the one on the 4th. Mr. Frog was able to capture 3 dances on video while he was there (I was at a baseball game with B). I thought I'd share them with you since they're short and sweet.
One of K's dances from this year. She's on the right.
Here's one of M's dances. She's the little one in green. At the end, she's a little late getting to the middle due to another dancer being out of place.
Another of M's dances. She's the small one on the left. She comes in about the 45 second mark, leaves, comes back at the 1:30 mark, leaves again and comes back for good at the 3:30 mark - that time from the right side. She ends on the front left.
One night recently we were in the car when the song Juke Box Hero by Foreigner came on the radio (Big 100.3 in DC baby!). D and I were arguing about how good/bad the song itself is. Personally, I'm partial to Renegade by Styx that played before Juke Box Hero (The version Chris Daughtry did on American Idol? *Swoon*). Anyway. There was a lull in our argument at a stop light and the song was coming to an end (you know, where they repeat Juke Box Hero over and over again). From the back of the van, I hear the following words come out of B's mouth: "and be a Juice Box Hero". We ran with it from there; "and be a juice box hero, with straws in the tops". Personally, I think it's better than the original. :)
Wrong Example #2:
Yesterday M and I were sitting at the table while she was doing her schoolwork. Out of nowhere, the chorus from Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer popped into my head. Of course, I went with it: "Oh we're halfway there". M decided to join in and finish the line for me: "Oh, Oh livin' on a square".
Yeah, my children aren't with it when it comes to classic rock.
Right Example #1:
Now these guys, they're totally with it. Trust me, I HATE this song, but it's worth it. Beaker and Animal are the best part (if you're in a reader or reading via email, click to see the video):
