• D informed me yesterday that he now has his driving permit.  Be afraid people, be very afraid.  There is a 17 year old hormone with feet and permission to operate a motorized vehicle loose in Southern Mississippi.

• K has been fascinated with nursing for awhile.  She asks me sometimes about how she used to drink mommo milk and if that's what made her such a big, strong girl.  I realized exactly how fascinated she was when she showed me yesterday that her stuffed baby doggie was drinking mommo milk from a stuffed mama cat.  Well I don't think that's exactly how it works, but I suppose it could happen.  Right?

• This little gem was seen on the way home from dance last night.  I swear this picture is not doctored in any way.  It's the real deal and well, I'll let the picture speak for itself:

Friday Fragments 9/11/09

• I've been wicked busy around here running M to various mouth doctors since the first week of August.  In the past 6 weeks, we've seen the dentist (2x), the orthodontist (2x), the endodontist (1x), and the oral surgeon (3x).  We'll be seeing the orthodontist 3 more times in the next 3 weeks.  I'm so sick of that dental office smell I think I'm good for the next 3 years.

• I spent last weekend with my best friend from school.  We hadn't seen each other since 1997!  It was like we'd never been apart.  We had a great time and my only regret is that we didn't have longer to spend catching up.

• K's birthday is this month, 11 days from now to be exact.  Unfortunately, I made the mistake of letting her know this.  If I have to hear "how much longer until my birthday?" one more time I may have one less child.  No really.  I get asked this question more than 10 times a day.  EVERY. DAY.  The only good thing that comes out of it is that I don't lose track of what the date is.

• As some of you may remember from this post and this one, I've been hunting every store in town trying to find Lay's Kettle Cooked Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper chips.  For almost 2 months I looked for those chips, searching in vain no less.  I finally found them last month at the Andrews AFB Commissary!  (Of course it couldn't be at a store anywhere close to my house.)  It's a good thing M's dance studio is located right outside the Andrews gate, now isn't it.  At least I can get them anytime I want now. ;)

• I haven't shared this here on the blog as of yet, but I figure it's a done deal that I may as well.  D, my eldest son, has decided to join the Marines.  As of today he's official.  Yesterday he took his ASVAB test and he's getting his physical as you're reading this (assuming you're reading this after 8AM).  He'll be leaving for boot camp right after graduation in May.  We're an Air Force family, and he was set to follow those footsteps until he met with a Marine recruiter in July.  I guess the lure of being cannon fodder was just too much for him and he changed his mind.  I'm cool with it though.  I love the Marines dress uniform.  :)

• Last but certainly not least, I want to give a huge thank you to all those who put themselves on the line every day for our country.  I know where I was and what I was doing 8 years ago today.  I know how I sat in awe of all the brave men and women who dove head first into doing all they could to help when we needed it most. Y'all are the best and please know that I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Friday Fragments 5/22/09

• I haven't been posting much lately because I've been so gosh darn busy!  Between being a taxi, schooling M, and everything else, I'm a mess!  I'm hoping life will settle down in the next 2 weeks.  We'll see.

• Last weekend, M had dance competition.  In their division, her group received 4th place for their Tap routine, 5th place for their Hip Hop routine and 6th place for their Jazz routine.  They were thrilled!  This video is of their Tap routine.  It was taken at an outdoor performance the weekend before competition.  M is the little brunette on the left at the beginning.  She ends up in the middle at the end.

• The end of May is so wicked crazy.  In the next two weeks we've got a birthday party to attend, another dance competition, recital rehearsals, recital, D coming home, a school picnic, and the end of the school year trip to Hershey Park for B.  ACK!!!!  Calgon take me away!

• Although I was initially rooting for Adam, I was happy Kris won American Idol.  I think it was a win-win situation.  Adam isn't bound by the winning contract and Kris gets a boost for his career.  It'll totally work for them both.  And Adam singing with KISS and Queen on the finale show?  Priceless!

• My favorite Summer show, So You Think You Can Dance, started back up Thursday.  I am thrilled beyond belief!  M and I watch it together and gab every week.  If you're a fan, look for my opinions every week when they get down to the top 20. 

• Baby snail count: 5 confirmed.  Adult snail count: down from 4 to 1.  Evidently once snails run out of algae to eat, they die.  Go figure.  (Yes, that would be sarcasm.)

Friday Fragments 5/8/09

• Last week I was accosted by a lovely child at the dance studio who held in her hands the most sinful thing ever created.  Of course I had to buy some.  I mean, it was for a good cause right?  Somehow, even after buying 2 I still managed to lose 3+ pounds.  What is this yummy yet sinful object?  Behold:    Someone kill me now.  (And you so know you're right there with me on these bars-even if Almond isn't your poison!)

• I'm talking to D last night on the phone and he's going on and on about some new video card he just purchased.  Blah, blah, blah.  All of a sudden he starts squeaking in a high pitched voice about 1620 something resolution and then shrieks "nerdgasm".  Funniest thing I'd heard all week.  Bout dang near wrecked the car.

• Look who is on this year's cheer camp flyer.  I even circled her again for your ease in locating.  :) If you don't know, that's my eldest daughter, M.  Yup, she was a Jr. Redskins cheerleader for 2 years.  She's talking about trying out again this year.  We'll see.

• Speaking of M, she auditioned for this year's Ballet Theatre production of Nutcracker.  You'd have thought I would have learned my lesson after last year's December from Hell but nope, I'm a glutton for punishment!  She's been offered 2 parts already and can audition for more in the Fall.  This year she'll be a mouse and a fairy.  I'm not certain right now if she'll want to audition for more parts, but we're discussing it.

• And because I just can't stop talking about her this week, M has her first dance studio performance this weekend.  It'll be the first time we as parents get to watch them do their routines, so I'm totally excited!

• This week I've fallen for this adorably cute song by Taylor Swift.  I totally don't do the country music scene (unless I'm channelling my inner Southern girl), but I can't get this song out of my head.  The video was just released and it speaks volumes to me, seeing as I was a band geek who had a really close guy friend.  Plus it's got that cutie Lucas Till from the Hannah Montana movie we saw last weekend (hey, don't judge I have a 7 yr. old who was dying to see it).  :)

• To make up for the frightening display of wording admitting my viewing of the Hannah Montana movie, I did see X-Men Origins: Wolverine on Sunday.  LOVED IT!!!!  Mr. Smoochiefrog saw it too and dang it if he didn't have the 2nd ending!  Luckily we were able to dish about the differences.  (If you didn't know, there are 2 different endings shown after the final credits.  See staying until the crowds thin out has it's advantages)

• Baby snail count for this week: 4 with a solitary sighting of a 5th.  *Le Sigh*

Friday Fragments

• We're in the car and I'm having a moment and singing loudly to Kiss by Prince.  (You know, the song from the Pretty Woman bathtub scene?  Don't judge, you do it too)  M pipes up behind me saying, "Mommy, that girl is singing higher than you."  I laugh and tell her that it's a guy singing.  Dead silence fills the car.  I look into the rear-view mirror to see the most shocked, incredulous look on her face.  She said nothing for almost 5 minutes while she tried to figure that one out.

• I mentioned my eldest in my FF last week.  I talked to him on the phone earlier this week and he actually was upset that I don't talk about him more on my blog.  Go figure.  Teenagers.

• B and I were coming out of the commissary the other day and he was carrying the one bag of groceries.  He makes this "my god this is heavy" sound as he stretches his arm out to me saying "here, your turn."  I looked at him and took the bag.  Now since I packed it, I knew it wasn't heavy.  I was like "Seriously?  This bag is so not heavy Bray."  He laughed at me and told me that "it was a teenage guy thing to act like it's heavy so we'll take the bag back and carry it instead."  I then laughed at him and said "Teenage guy thing?  Shoot boy, that's just a guy thing!"  Like we women don't catch onto that crap.  Duh!

• Last week in my FF I talked about our bunnyrific snails.  Well guess who we found again this week?  Yup, snail #3 has reappeared and is thriving nicely.  (Then again it could just be another new baby snail.  Oh crap!)

• M and K got their dance costumes yesterday.  Luckily, K's both fit nicely.  M on the other hand has a few that need minor alterations.  At least now she mostly fits into the size that's ordered.  If we could just mix and match top and bottom sizes, we'd be golden!  The child has no hips or butt, and everything just falls right off.  Thank goodness my seamstress is just that good and everything will be ready for the performance next weekend!
