Now I know this post is going to cause some trouble here at Casa de Smoochiefrog, but I'm willing to deal. This is just too good not to share.
Sunday we were driving home from church when M made the statement "Mommy does all the shopping.". Bless her observant heart. Mr. Smoochiefrog decides to open his mouth and spout off that I'm not the only one who knows how to shop, that he shops too. Now granted, he will run by the Commissary and grab something if I need it. I can give him a list and he can shop from that with no real problems (unless I use tic marks).
If he had just let it go we wouldn't be going through what we'll be going through the rest of the month, but he wouldn't.
Men.
He kept insisting that I don't do as much as M thinks. That he does more than she thinks and that he can shop just fine.
Right.
I decided that I'd heard enough. I inform him that I'm done for January. He gets to shop for groceries from now until February.
He gets all adamant, swearing that it's not that hard and he'll have no problems. And then I tell him the rest of the news:
He has to menu plan for the rest of the month too.
I think he threw up in his mouth a little at just the idea. He started freaking out yelling "That's not part of the deal!", and going on and on.
Um dear, how do you know what to buy at the grocery unless you have a plan for what's for dinner?
Duh.
I finally get him to calm down and then inform him that 3 new meals have to come out of it too. *Editor's note: I will admit that I haven't done many new meals lately due to all the dance insanity I've been going through with M. It's slowed down now, and I fully plan to get back to where I do at least one new meal a week.* By this time, I think an aneurysm is going to happen at any moment with the way his blood vessels are popping out of the sides of his neck and forehead.
It took him 30 minutes to come up with the 3 new meals, and another 20ish minutes to finish the rest of the menu for the month. He looked back at past months to come up with food for the other days, throwing in a couple soup & sandwich nights when I have the girls at dance; which is fine.
He's only halfway done though.
Now he has to make a little over $200 last until the end of the month.
That includes buying food for breakfast and lunches, snacks, and all the necessary ingredients for the dinners. That's about $10 a day for dinners with about $40 left over for the rest.
Good luck with that.
I don't have too much pity, especially when I called him and told him we were out of cereal...for everybody. I informed him I have coupons he could use, and he refused to come home and get them saying it was too much to come the extra mile home and go back to the Commissary.
Right.
We'll see how it all plays out. I will tell y'all that we're having Mac & Cheese and Beans & Weenies for dinner tonight.
Jealous yet?
Yeah, me either.
I will be sure to let you know what happens.
