American Idol Top 5

Tonight we'll be hearing standards from the Rat Pack era.  Oh joy.  Insert snores here.  The mentor for the week is Jamie Fox.  Um, yeah because that's who I automatically think of when I think of Rat Pack songs.  Buble would have been a better choice.  Idol probably couldn't afford him though.

On with the show....

1. Kris Allen-The Way You Look Tonight--I loved it!  I think he did an awesome job!  Go Kris!
2. Allison Iraheta-Someone to Watch Over Me--She sang it well, but it didn't do too much for me.  
3. Matt Giraud-My Funny Valentine--I didn't like it.  I guess he did the song well, but I was bored.
4. Danny Gokey-Come Rain or Come Shine--He tore that song up!  Great job!
5. Adam Lambert-Feeling Good--He did a fantabulous job.  It totally screamed Freddie Mercury style though.  And the white suit, so not doing it for me.

I probably should have mentioned it first off, but what is Paula wearing?  She looks like she has a bow wrapped around her chest.  Almost like she's trying to be a present.  *Shudder at the thought*

I'd say the bottom 2 would be Matt, Allison, and Kris with probably Matt going home.

My Inner Geek Reigns Supreme

Friday Fragments

Friday Fragments are bits and pieces of your week that are usually brief; too short for a stand-alone post, but too good to discard. Collect humorous observations, "Heard" items, and other small gems and put them together in a Friday Fragments post.  Here we go....

• I took last week off from Friday Fragments.  I hope ya didn't miss me too much.  :)  I just had absolutely nothing going on, so I had nothing to write about.  Good times!  :)

• I was driving M to dance on Tuesday when I heard something strange on the radio.  I had been scanning stations and came across a hard rock station that was playing Bon Jovi (not the something strange).  I jammed until the song ended and the strains of the next song came through.  I kept thinking over and over that I knew the song, but just couldn't place it...until the lyrics started.  It scared the crap out of me.  Some songs just shouldn't be remade, ever.  It's kind of one of those you have to hear it to believe it. *Shudder*

• While I'm mentioning songs, what is the deal with You Found Me by The Fray?  I just don't get it.  It is just a carry over from the Gray's Anatomy theme song hit?  Neither is really a great song to me.  Anyone?

• B brought home his 3rd semester report card with all A's.  Yea!

• I got my eldest son's plane tickets purchased last week.  We're all excited.  He'll be here in less than 5 weeks.  Yea!

• When I was talking to D on the phone last night, we had a conversation about some things going on in his life.  He told me about some stuff he just had to deal with, and I got to tell him how proud I was of how he handled the whole situation.  It's scary when they have to make life decisions by themselves and all you can do is stand back and pray to God that you've done enough in teaching for them to make the right choices.  Last night I may have gotten a glimpse that I have.  *Gulp*

• We're still holding on to that one last Mickey Mouse fish.  Now we have another issue.  We have 4 large snails that have been doing a great job keeping the tank clean.  Now they've started to procreate.  I had no idea snails were shelled bunnies that live in water.  We now have 3 baby snails.  Well, we've seen 3 only once.  I'm thinking #3 got eaten by the sucker fish or something as we haven't seen it since.  We definitely have 2 babies though.  Baby snails are kinda cute, in a slimy sort of way.

What Annoys You?

I was listening to the radio in the car on the way home from dance last week, and the DJ was taking calls from listeners. 

His question was pretty simple:  What annoys you when you're out to eat in a restaurant?

There were some interesting answers, his especially (something about bread and the butter having to be cold and not warm, whatev) but not one person mentioned either of my personal pet peeves.

When we go out, it irks me to no end to have a waitress totally ignore me while doting on Mr. Smoochiefrog.  If I have to ask for a water refill while his gets brought to him without asking, it's so on.  I get them back at the end though when they put the check in front of him and I snatch it to pay.  Then they get all flustered as they realize they're not getting a tip worth talking about.

My second peeve is when they come back to pick up the check folder, take a look inside and see cash, and then have the nerve to ASK "Do you need any change?"  Seriously?  That is so freaking rude and I don't care who they were trained by or how they were trained.  A waitperson does that to me and they're lucky if they get 10% let alone if they even get a tip!  ARGH!  The proper thing to do is to say "I'll be right back with your change."  That then leaves it open to me to say either "thank you" or "it's okay you keep it".  Put the ball in my court and you tend to get a better tip.  This one thing bothers me so much, I've actually told servers that if they hadn't asked if I needed change they would have gotten double what I actually left.  Yup, I'm cold-hearted like that.

I know how I like to be treated when I'm out and when I worked in the food service industry before, while not specifically waiting on tables, I treated my customers as I wanted to be treated.  Never had a complaint either.  It seems that nowadays that just doesn't happen.

So my question to you is the same as the DJ's:

When you're out to eat in a restaurant, what bothers you to no end?  What will completely ruin a meal out for you?  Tell me in the comments! 

American Idol Top 7 (Again)

It's Disco week here on Idol, and I'm so hoping for Dancing Queen by somebody.  If Adam does it, I'll die on the spot.

Really.

If you've been under a rock, the judges used their save last week to save Matt Giraud from elimination.  In exchange for his safety though, 2 people will be going home this week.  We'll see who it is tomorrow.

Anywho.  It seems that they've decided running over into the 9 o'clock hour isn't cool anymore because they start the singing at about 8:03.  Great!

1. Lil Rounds-I'm Every Woman by Chaka Khan--I thought the little bit she actually sang wasn't too bad.  However, there was too much scatting to really count as her singing the song.  Just saying.  Plus, one-piece bodysuits are NOT designed to flatter those with an ample hind end.  Again, just saying.  P.S.  Sit down Paula and shut up Lil!
2. Kris Allen-She Works Hard for the Money by Donna Summer--Really?  This could be bad.  HOLY COW!!!!  WTH????  LOVE IT!!!!  I would not have seen this coming from a mile away, but it was awesome!  He is such a cutie patootie!  And ya know what, I bet he does shop at La Perla....FOR HIS WIFE!!!!!!!!  Morons.  Someone needs to cram a sock in Paula's mouth and leave it there for the rest of the season.
3. Danny Gokey-September by Earth Wind and Fire--I thought it was a rough start.  I didn't like the yell or beginning.  He didn't do too badly once he got past that though.  The Taylor dancing really needs to stop.  Really it does.  SIT DOWN PAULA!!!!
4. Allison Iraheta-Hot Stuff by Donna Summer--It suited her.  I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either.
5. Adam Lambert-If I Can't Have You by Yvonne Elliman from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack--What????  No Dancing Queen????  I'm at a loss now.  I don't know if I can watch anymore.  Crap, the Elvis hair is back and he's in a suit.  I'm bitter now.  He sang it flawlessly, but it didn't work for me.  STOP CRYING PAULA!!!!
6. Matt Giraud-Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees--I thought it was manic, desperate, and just bad.  Then he went and made a horrible air gulp on the last note, argh!  Seems Simon and I are in agreement.  Go figure.  STI DOWN PAULA!!!!
7. Anoop Desai-Dim All the Lights by Donna Summer--I've never heard of it before.  I guess he did well.  It just didn't do too much for me.  I just listened to it on Itunes, and it sounds much better there than it did on Idol.  Just saying.  SIT DOWN PAULA!!!!

Mental note....Playing a drinking game while watching Idol would be dangerous.  Especially if you had to drink when either Paula was dancing or making no sense.  You'd be drunk within 10 minutes of the show's start.
