In The Mind of A Thirtysomething Mom

Yup you guessed it, Kung Fu Panda-mania has taken over our household.

For some bizarre reason, Mr. Smoochiefrog has a great affection for Kung Fu movies.  When the ads for Kung Fu Panda first started airing, he was adament we had to go.

Now I'm cheap.  Totally.  I refuse to pay the $20+ for admission to a theater, let alone buy any snacks (while I may be cheap, I also am quite adament against bringing food into the theater-but that's a post for a whole other time) for another $20+.  We have been hitting the free summer movies at the local theater, and Mr. Smoochiefrog and I sometimes get out to the base theater to see "new" movies.  We've been waiting for a chance to see Kung Fu Panda as a family and tonight's the night!

We found out the base theater would be showing Kung Fu Panda 3 times in July (they usually only show movies 3 times).  I refused to go to the first 2 showings b/c they were on the weekend.  (Usually when kids movies are shown on the weekend at the base theater, they are SRO and I can't stand to be around that many children that aren't my own.)  The final showing is scheduled for tonight, and we'll be there.  Hopefully, everybody and their brothers saw it over the weekend and it won't be too packed.

One can hope, right?

Shoot for $11 for the entire family, I might just deal with it if it's packed.

I still won't buy snacks though.  :)

Note to anyone who finds this page via a web search:  You will NOT find videos of all the dances on this site.  This is just a text review of the dances from Wednesday's show.  There are videos from the Thursday group dances though.  The opinions are mine and my daughters and are not shared by everyone.  Thanks for visiting!

Last week we said goodbye to Hip Hop dancer Comfort & Contemporary dancer Will.  Comfort should have been gone the first week she came back, but at least she's gone now.  And while I'm on the subject, AMERICA....WTH ARE YOU THINKING????  Will & Twitch in the bottom 2????  WHY wasn't Mark there????  I mean seriously????  I'm so voting every chance I get this week!

Chuck Maldinado (a newbie) did the opening number for last weeks results show.  It was pretty wicked.

Anyway, on with tonight's show! 

Adam Shankman is the guest judge this week.  Again. 

This week the dancers will be doing 2 dances each as well as their own solos.  I'm only commenting on their partnered dances.  I'm not good enough to comment on everything people.  I'll keep it simple, everybody did well on their solos.  :)   

Couple #1:  Courtney (Contemporary dancer) & Mark (Contemporary dancer)-Dancing a Viennese Waltz routine, choreographed by Jason Gilkenson (a newbie here but been on the Australian version of SYTYCD), to The Time of My Life by David Cook--First, could we plug AI any more????  Geez people!  This dance was pretty.  Nice lifts, smooth dancing.

M's critique:  Nice & smooth.  It was good.

School Rating:  A

Couple #2:  Katee (Contemporary dancer) & Joshua (Hip Hop dancer)-Dancing a Contemporary routine, choreographed by Tyce Diorio, to All by Myself by Celine Dion--BEAUTIFUL!!!!  The lifts, HOLY COW!!!!  Superb partnering!

M's critique:  Pretty, smooth and really good.

School Rating:  A

Couple #3:  Chelsie (Ballroom dancer) & Twitch (Hip Hop dancer)-Dancing a Mambo routine, choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin, to Ahora Me Toca A Mi by Victor Manuelle--Chelsie smoked that routine!  Good partnering.

M's critique:  I liked the dance.

School Rating: A

DANCE #2

Couple #1:  Courtney (Contemporary dancer) & Mark (Contemporary dancer)-Dancing a Jazz routine, choreographed by Sonya Tayeh, to The Garden by Mirah--Interesting!  That's pretty much all I can say.

M's critique:  Sexy!

School Rating: A

Couple #2:  Katee (Contemporary dancer) & Joshua (Hip Hop dancer)-Dancing a Paso Doble routine, choreographed by Jason Gilkenson, to Filet from the La Reve Soundtrack--Interesting costume Katee.  They did a really nice job.  It was powerful and strong.  Great footwork!

M's critique:  I didn't like it.

School Rating: A

Couple #3:  Chelsie (Ballroom dancer) & Twitch (Hip Hop dancer)-Dancing a Hip Hop routine, choreographed by Tabitha & Napolean D'Umo, to Control by The Vitamin String Quartet--That was different.  It looked like they were having fun.

M's critique:  Chelsie looked bad.  I hated her hair.  I liked the dance though.

School Rating: A

Help!

I'm a prisoner in my own home!

Let me explain.

When we moved into our house, the tadpoles were excited at having actual people living near us.  They were thrilled at the idea of having friends they could visit and could come over here.  I myself was excited too!  I would be that "cool mom" who had the house everyone came over to.  Ya know what I'm talking about?

Well that time has come and I'm hating every minute of it due to one person; Fritz (obviously not her real name).  Now I'm sure Fritz is a pretty decent child, but she's so freaking annoying.  Here's why.

We have this gaudy window right by our front door-as seen here:

No, the house isn't slanted.  I just suck at taking pictures.  :)

Of course the builders made it just the right size so you can't buy curtains that fit it.  You have to either make your own, or deal with it.  I've dealt with it thus far for 2 reasons:  1. I'm too stupid to figure out how to make the 3 yards of sheer fabric I bought into curtains and 2. we've not had any problems with people looking in...UNTIL NOW!

Fritz is M's age, give or take.  M has befriended 3 other girls on the block, but hasn't been too fond of Fritz.  She's a little too tomboyish for M, and she'd rather be outside digging in the dirt than playing with dolls like M.  Now the other 3 girls and M are thick as thieves.   Yesterday two of them (sisters even) spent about 5 hours here playing with M and watching movies.  It was totally cool with me, and they had a blast. 

At one point yesterday, Fritz and girl #3 came to the door.  *Ring* went the doorbell at the same time *Knock Knock* happened on the door.  I knew instantly it was Fritz b/c that's how she knocks on the door.  Plus, I saw her beady little eyeballs peering through my window.  When offered the chance to come in (as M and the sisters didn't want to go out), all Fritz wanted to do was play in the garage????  Uh, no.  She and girl #3 wandered off only to come back 5 MINUTES LATER; *Ring*...*Knock Knock*, AGAIN peering through my window!!!!  I snapped and yelled through the house "Stop looking through the window!!!!"  This time she was with flourescent hair boy (no, really.  This boy had bright orange hair, and now it's bright yellow) looking for B.  I'm like "Please don't look through the window.  That is just rude."  B didn't want to go out at that time, so off she went again.  ARGH!

So today comes around, and there was knocking on the door at about 10:30 this morning.  WTH????  We were all upstairs, so I just told B to ignore the door.  (The girls and I were playing nail salon in my room.  They both have beautiful sparkling nails now.  Me, not so much.)  I came down a little later to fix lunch and decided I'd put a stop to the peering through the window.  This is what I did:

Oh yes I did!  I went all ghetto and put aluminum foil over the bottom of the window.  Luckily for me, they're all too short to see over it.  :)

Now here's the part where I'm a prisoner in my own home.

Since she can't see in, she is now really obnoxious.  Now she rings the doorbell 6-8 times, knocking on the door after each ring!  OMG!!!!  Then; then she comes around the house trying to look in the other windows that I have the blinds open on!  Um, hello can we say stalkerific?

So now I'm stuck in my house, with all the blinds I normally have open closed.  I'm scared to go near the front door in fear that it's her, afraid to make a sound in fear that she'll know we're home and afraid to take the foil down in fear she'll peer in again (btw, she peered in the other 2 times she came to the door after being told NOT TO).  What am I going to do????

Oh hell, there's the doorbell again.

Help!

Must. Visit. Now.

My dear bloggy friend Sasha pointed this site out recently.  I visited it over the weekend, and sat in tears for the duration of reading it.  You really have to visit it, just because it's so freaking hilarious.

And being that I decorate cakes, I'm so glad I didn't find any of my cakes on there.  :)

P.S.  Nicole, I'm thinking the bottom cake in this post is perfect for the party.  I can totally do that cake, even with my eyes closed!  Whatcha think?  :)  You better know I'm kidding!
